RAWALPINDI - A Punjab Assembly member from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf came under an armed attack near Sadiqabad area of Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

Asif Mehmood, an MPA from PP-9, however, remained safe in the deadly attack, officials said.

The incident took place at 6th Road Chowk, where two unidentified armed gunmen attacked Mehmood’s car when he was heading towards Sadiqabad area after attending a meeting at ten in the evening.

According to officials, the culprits, who came on a car, wanted to kidnap the lawmaker. They opened indiscriminate firing when the MPA put up resistance, and one of them fell on the ground during the course of action. Later, the attackers fled under the cover of aerial firing.

Asif Mehmood lodged a complaint with the Sadiqabad Police Station.
