OKARA - A youth drowned rescuing a woman who attempted suicide by jumping into Lower Bari Doab Canal here the other day.

According to Rescue 1122, an argument occurred between Kalsoom Bibi and his husband Saleem, resident of Yasir Ghaffar Town. It enraged Kulsoom Bibi. She reached the LBD Canal and jumped into the water to commit suicide. Two youths including Shahid who were passing by jumped into the canal to save her. The other youth managed to rescue the woman and he pulled her to the bank of the canal. But Shahid could not resist the powerful and fast moving water of the canal and drowned.

On information, Rescue 1122 officials reached the site and launched operation for recovery of the body of Shahid. The search was underway till the filing of the report.
