Shabnam Roomani passes away at 80

Karachi (PPI) - Noted Urdu poet, writer and columnist Shabnam Roomani passed away after protracted illness here on Tuesday. He was 80. The real name of Shabnam Roomani was Mirza Azeem Baig Chughtai. He was born on December 30, 1928 in Shahjahanpur, India. He did his graduation from the Agra University. His first book of poetry came in 1959 under the title of "Masnavi Sair Karachi" and later his three poetry compilations were published, titled as "Jazeera", "Tohmat" and "Doosra Himala". Besides, compilations of Naat and Manqabat, and a compilation of his literary columns titled as "Hyde Park" have also been published. Sherry Rehman condoles demise Sherry Rehman, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of renowned poet Shabnam Roomani. The Minister in her condolence message lauded the services of Shabnam Roomani in the realms of poetry and literature to promote healthy and positive trends in the field. She prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss. Governor's condolence Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has expressed grief and sorrow on the sad demise of prominent poet, Shabnam Roomani, who passed away here on Tuesday. He applauded the literary services of the deceased. The Governor prayed Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant fortitude to the heirs to bear this irreparable loss.
