FAISALABAD - The selection committee of the Islamic Development Bank has decided to confer a 'Prize for Science & Technology' award on the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad.

The award conferred for achieving outstanding contribution to a 'Scientific  Discipline' will encourage other science & technology institutions in Pakistan to strive hard for achieving such excellence. Disclosing the award winning, Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmed Khan said that the award consisted of 100,000 US dollars, a trophy and a commendation certificate. He added that the award would be presented to the UAF representatives by the IDB Board of Governors chairman at a ceremony to be held on the occasion of 37th IDB Board of Governors meeting in Khartoum (Sudan) on April 3-4 2012.

He said that the IDB would bear the travelling, boarding and lodging expenses  of the university representative to Kharoum.

The vice chancellor added that the university is ranked No 2 in the Organization of Islamic Countries and 3rd in Pakistan according to academic ranking of universities by the Higher Education Commission. He added the UAF had won eight presidential, four HEC (Best Teachers) awards, five Pakistan Academy of Sciences Awards and four International awards.

He further told that under the Internship Programme, it had been made mandatory for the students of B.Sc (Hons) in Agriculture and other faculties to spend one full semester at Farms/Research Institutions to become conversant with the problems of farmers and feel inspired to work for their problems' solution.

He added that the induction of graduating classes in Crop Maximization Campaigns of the Punjab government had become a regular feature of the University.

The vice chancellor said that a sum of Rs2,079 million out of development funds were spent to add 15 new faculties in the University which include: Day Care Centre, Students Counselling Centre, five new Students hostels at PARS, Women Complex and Health Centre, 120 houses for employees, six green houses, three video conferencing halls, post harvest teaching and training centre, exhibition centre, agriculture museum, Business Incubation Centre, three basketball courts and 2 cricket grounds.
