ISLAMABAD - Punjab University (PU) won the All Pakistan Inter-university Women Karate Championship after securing 140 points here on late Thursday night at Quaid-e-Azam University. Karachi University (KU) finished second with 80 points and Government College University (GCU) Faisalabad grabbed third with 50 points.
A total of seven universities from across the country took part in the championship including Punjab University, Lahore College Women University, Karachi University, Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, Islamia University Bahawalpur, Government College University Faisalabad and hosts Quaid-e-Azam University.
PU won the team Kate event, followed by GCU Faisalabad in second and third position went jointly to Quaid-e-Azam University and Karachi University.
In 45kg category, LCWU took first position; while second position went to GCU Faisalabad and third position was beg jointly by Karachi and Punjab Universities.
In 50kg category, KU claimed the first spot, Punjab second and LCWU and Islamia University Bahawalpur were joint third. In 55kg category, PU won first position, LCWU second and third position jointly went to GCU Faisalabad and KU. In 61kg category, PU took first position, followed by Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan in second and third position went jointly to Islamia University Bahawalpur and Karachi University.
In 68kg category, PU stood first, KU second and Quaid-e-Azam and GCU Faisalabad were joint third. In 68+kg, PU took first position, second went to GCU Faisalabad and third place went jointly to KU and Islamia University Bahawalpur. Prof Dr Masoom Yousufzai, Vice Chancellor, Quaid-e-Azam University was the chief guest on the concluding ceremony and distributes cash prizes and trophies among the teams and players.
