LAHORE – Out of favour veteran forward of Pakistan hockey team gets a boost from Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) when he was awarded central contract in category A. The PHF Friday approved performance-based central contracts for the players of national pool on the recommendations of national selection committee.
The move is significant as it may pave way for Rehan to make a comeback in national colours for the London Olympics this year in August. Goalkeeper Salman Akbar is the significant absentee in the contract list.
This incentive programme will be applicable for the players with effect from January 1 to March 31, 2012. The PHF has already paid amount of central contract to the players up to December 31, 2011.
The players in category A are Sohail Abbas, Fareed Ahmed, Rashid Mahmood, Shakeel Abbasi, Waqas Sharif and Rehan Butt.
Imran Shah, M Irfan, Rizwan Senior, Abdul Haseem Khan and Shafqat Rasool stand in category B while Kashif Shah, M Tousiq, M Zubair, Ali Shan, Rizwan Junior and Umar Bhutta are in category C.
In juniors’ category, the players are Mazhar Abbas, Kashif Javed, Tasawwar Abbas, M Irfan, Ammad Butt and M Suleman.
The first training camp national senior probables preparing for participation in the London Olympiad will be established at National Hockey Stadium from February 27 to March 15. The PHF has directed probable players to report on February 27 to Khawaja M Junaid who is camp commandant.
The probables are Imran Butt, Imran Shah and Mazhar Abbas (goalkeepers); Sohail Abbas, Kashif Shah, Ihsan Ullah, M Irfan and Amir Shahzad (Full Backs); Rizwan Junior, Fareed Ahmad, Rashid Mehmood, M Tousiq, Kashif Javed, Tasawwar Abbas and Ammad Butt (half backs); Waqas Sharif, Shakeel Abbasi, Abdul Haseem Khan, M Rizwan Senior, M Zubair, Ali Shan, Shafqat Rasool, M Umar Bhutta, Shabbir Khan, M Irfan Junior, M Suleman and Rehan Butt (forwards).
