Rawalpindi - Police during comprehensive raids in Rawalpindi and Karachi have arrested two alleged target killers for their involvement in murder of four people in the city.
The two accused identified as Naveed Hassan alias M Asif alias Faisal, son of Fida Ali of Gilgit, and Syed Muntazir Abbas son of Syed Abbas Ali Shah, a resident of Gilgit who was presently residing in Pindora area of Rawalpindi. Both the accused have confessed their crimes.
Similarly, police have solved the mystery of three murder cases and rounded up four accused.  Police during operations in different areas of the city also busted 8 notorious gangs and arrested 40 accused for their involvement in stealing bikes and cars, house robberies, looting people at gunpoint, mobile snatching, gambling, smuggling arms and ammunitions and narcotics, besides recovering booty from their possession. A huge quantity of explosives and detonators were also seized by police.
The police recovered 34 cars, 35 motorcycles, Rs 2,041,695 cash, gold jewellery worth Rs 1.8 million, 233 pistols of 30-bore, 21 revolvers of 32-bore, 16 rifles, 4 Kalashnikoves, 1923 bullets, 75-kg explosive material, 1,000 detonators, 196.520-kg hashish, 6.325-kg heroin and 5,024 litres alcohol and a large numbers of laptops, computers and mobile phones.
This was disclosed by City Police Officer (CPO) Humayun Bashir Tarar during a crowded press briefing held here at Police Line number 1 on Tuesday. He was flanked by SP Rawal Division Karamat Ullah Malik, SP Potohar Division Muhammad Attique Tahir, DSPs Syed Iqbal Kazmi, Sardar Babar Mumtaz, Farhan Aslam, Faisal Salim, SHOs Jahangir Bhatti, Malik Arshad, Sattar Khan, Raja Rashid, Waseem, Chaudhry Jamil and many other police officers. Addressing the press briefing, the CPO claimed that with this huge success of police in all the fields, the crime rate in the district has downed considerably and people have taken a sigh of relief.
He said that police have netted two target killers who confessed killing four people in targeted attacks. He informed that the target killer Naveed murdered Mufti Imran on 21/5/14 on Tulsa Road; ended life of Imran in Chota Sahiwal in 2013 and injured one Sarwar Jahangir during firing in 2013 and murdered a judge Jamshed. The accused also fled from jail. Some seven cases were registered against the accused, he added. The second target killer, the CPO added, Syed Mutazir Abbas killed a man Abdul Wakeel in Gilgit in 2012.
Commenting on extortion cases, Humayun said that police under surveillance of SP Rawal Division Karamat Ullah Malik have solved many extortion cases and handcuffed many extortionists.
Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry also recognised the bravery of police and awarded the SP and other officers with cash and trophies. However, only one case of extortion that reported four days ago was yet to be solved, the CPO informed. He further said that police solved the mystery of three blind murder cases including murder of Manmohan Singh, a Sikkh doctor at Sadiqabad, by nabbing 5 accused.
On increasing crime rate in the city, the CPO said that several teams have been constituted in Rawal and Potohar divisions. During hectic efforts, the police teams managed to bust 8 gangs and apprehended some 40 gangsters.
He said that police during action also arrested criminals involved in car theft, mobile snatching, house robberies, and narcotics and arms smuggling, and recovered looted stuff from their possession. Police have captured 393 proclaimed offenders and 162 court absconders during action, he added.
Replying to a query, the CPO said that Chitti Hattian blast incident was being investigated and evidence has also been sent to forensic lab for further reports.
