Teachers and students of Govt Murray College, the alma mater of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, paid rich tributes to the great poet in a special ceremony held here in connection with his birth anniversary.

Principal Prof Javaid Akhtar Billah said that Faiz ruled the world of poetry and literature after Allama Iqbal, Mirza Ghalib and Mir Taqi Mir, adding that his personal life, family background, beginning of poetry, getting jobs and going behind bars, and his passion, tolerance, courage had several lessons to be learnt.

Later, professors Muhammad Ishaq Bajwa, Sabir Nazir Butt, Khawaja Fazail Ahmed, Nadeem Islam Sulehri, Dr Ashfaq Ahmed Ghauri, Mujahid Hussain Bukhari, Muhamamd Ashfaq Niaz and Khawaja Irfan Hameed also addressed the ceremony. They said his poetry could never be forgotten in all the progressive movements. They said that Faiz’s foresightedness was unmatchable as it helped in analysing the political and social scenarios through his practical struggle.

They said that Faiz promoted courageous journalism in the county through his revolutionary poetry having secretes of progress, prosperity and development of the nations.

They pointed out that Faiz had married Ailas after she embraced Islam and become Kalsoom, and it showed Faiz’s love with Islam. They revealed that Feroz Ahmed Faiz and Mian Hussain had been the old friends of Faiz Ahmed in Sialkot as they used to arrange Adabi Mahaafil in Sialkot city’s Kashmiri Bazaar locality.
