MULTAN

Former Punjab minister for prisons Ch Abdul Waheed Arrain, who was de-seated from his Punjab Assembly seat by the Election Tribunal Multan for possessing two NICs, has said that he moved Supreme Court to get justice and with the grace of Allah Almighty he got justice. On the other hand, his opponent Rana Abdul Jabbar, whose petition led to the disqualification of the provincial minister, claimed that the Supreme Court did not issue any order for the restoration of Ch Abdul Waheed Arrain rather the apex court sought details from the election tribunal for further discussion.

Talking to the journalists after his arrival in Multan on Tuesday, Ch Abdul Waheed Arrain said that he moved Supreme Court because he felt that he was denied justice by the tribunal. He hoped that he would get justice in final decision. He expressed his gratitude to all those who stood by him in the hour of test and trial.

Rana Abdul Jabbar claimed that Ch Abdul Waheed Arrain told the masses lies after lies. “Once he got disqualified for telling lies before election tribunal and now he is trying to mislead people by telling another lie to them regarding his restoration as member of Punjab Assembly,” he accused the former minister. He maintained that apex just sought details of the case from the tribunal for discussion.

It may not be out of place to mention here that an Election Tribunal of Multan had disqualified Punjab Minister for Prisons Ch Abdul Waheed Arrain on violation of Articles 62 and 63 of constitution of Pakistan on February 6. The minister was de-seated on a petition filed by his opponent Rana Abdul Jabbar in June 2013 for concealing facts from the Returning Officer (RO) regarding his two National Identity Cards.

Ch Abdul Waheed Arrain had won election from PP-196 Multan-III on PML-N ticket in May 2013.

He secured 33033 votes and defeated PTI candidate Rana Abdul Jabbar with a difference of 4223 votes, who could get 28810 votes. Rana Abdul Jabbar filed a petition in Election Tribunal Multan against Ch Abdul Waheed Arrain, accusing him of concealing important facts from the Returning Officer. The petitioner also claimed that the result was changed in favour of Ch Abdul Waheed Arrain.
