Gepco catches power pilferers

The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) caught red handed about 3,000 power thieves during crackdown launched in Daska, Wazirabad, Jalalpur Bhattian, Gujranwala Cantt and Hafizabad circles in January, 2016.
According to Superintending Engineer Gepco Gujranwala Cantt Circle Liaqat Ali Dhillu, Gepco has sent the monthly bills of Rs13.4 million by including 1,678,925 detection units in these bills to the accused.
He said that Gepco has got registered separate cases against 10 main accused under the Electricity Act. He said that the electricity thieves are the cancer of the society due to which Gepco has jazzed up the pace of its campaign against the thieves for curbing the menace of electricity pilferage.
BONDED LABOUR: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Afif Tufail raided two brick kilns in Raamkey and Saleemeykey and took action over bonded labour being carried out there. The DCO said that the bricks kilns were found taking forced labour from children. He added that the Pasrur police have arrested the accused owners and managers Umer Gull, Nazir Ahmed and Infal Maseeh of the bricks kilns and sent them behind the bars.
