Truck crushes three to death on Bund Road

LAHORE - A rashly driven truck overturned near Gulshan-i-Ravi yesterday, killing three pedestrians including a minor girl and injuring one woman critically.
Police said that a salt-laden truck turned turtle when its tyre burst on Bund Road, in Sanda police station limits. The accident left Abida, 35, Asia 40, six-year-old Zainab dead while the girl’s mother, Anila, was critically injured.
Rescuers reached the spot and pulled out the bodis with locals’ help.
They were all the residents of Rewaz Garden.
The truck driver, however, managed to escape the scene. Sanda police have registered a case against the truck driver, after finding him responsible for the accident. Investigation was in process.
Cops shot dead on check post: Unidentified armed bikers gunned down two on-duty police officials at a check post in Iqbal Town area yesterday.
Sources said that the policemen had signalled the attackers to stop for frisking. But they opened fire, killing the two cops on the spot.
The assailants managed to flee the scene after the attack. The deceased were identified as Mubashair and Asif, who were shifted to hospital for hospital before succumbing to bullet wounds.
DIG Operations Haider Ashraf said three teams were formed to investigate the killings, while officials were also deployed to arrest the culprits.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the killing and expressed his condolences for the bereaved families.
