A married woman, who was allegedly set ablaze by her in-laws, has succumbed to her burns at Mayo Hospital Lahore after fighting for life for two days.
Village Kala Ghumanaan-based labourer Riaz’s young daughter Faiza (26) was married to Zahid Mehmood in May 2015. After marriage, her husband Zahid Mehmood and in-laws allegedly started quarrelling and torturing her for not brining their desired dowry.
Two days ago, her accused husband Zahid and in-laws tortured her brutally and later set her ablaze after sprinkling kerosene oil and patrol on her. She received serious wounds. The accused fled away from the spot after setting her ablaze. On listening to her hue and cry, the neighbours shifted her to a local hospital in Sialkot, from where she was shifted to Mayo Hospital Lahore, where she succumbed to her burns.
Police handed over the dead body to her grieved family for burial after autopsy. She was laid to rest in her native graveyard here. A large number of the people attended her funeral.
Meanwhile, the Muradpur police have registered a case against Zahid, his father Sadiq, brother Suleman and other in-laws. The case has been registered on the report of victim Faiza Bibi’s father.
NOTICES ISSUED: The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) issued show-cause notices to 75 tanneries located in and around Sialkot city for polluting the environment. According to the local officials of EPA Sialkot, the warning and show cause notices have been served on the owners of 75 tanneries in Sialkot for spreading larger scale environmental pollution in Sialkot city.
They said that the tanneries are located at various congested residential, commercial and industrial areas of Sialkot city including Sambrial- Daska, Zafarwali- Sahowala on main Sialkot -Sambrial- Wazirabad Road, Sialkot- Daska Road and Sialkot – Head Marla Road.
