Doctors, paramedics observe strike against ‘harassment’

TIMERGARA  -   The doctors and paramedics at the District Headquarters Hospital Timergara on Saturday boycotted the out-patient department against the alleged harassment and incitement of public against hospital administration by a worker of a political party.

The doctors also kept their private clinics closed and the only emergency cover was provided to the patients at the DHQ hospital.

Doctors’ Association Dir Lower President Dr Nadir Khan and Young Doctors Association President Dr Waheedullah said that politicking on a body by Councillor Alamzeb Advocate was pathetic.

They alleged that Alamzeb resorted to inciting the public against the doctors just to politicize the issue of a boy’s death in the hospital emergency unit on Friday evening.

“Doctors in Swat and Peshawar had termed the disease of the boy who had developed a hole in his heart as fatal and the doctors had sent him back home,” they said.

The doctors’ leaders said the district councillor and PPP local leader tried to harass the doctors and to provoke the public just for the sake of politicking.

Dir Lower Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram and Nazim Malik Muhammad Rasool Khan held negotiations with the doctors’ representatives. The doctors, however, decided to continue the boycott until the case was registered against the political workers who harassed the doctors and other staff.

The deputy commissioner and nazim assured them that a thorough investigation would be conducted into the matter and action would be initiated against those found guilty.

It is worth mentioning here that Musa Khan, a resident of Bajaur Agency, on Friday alleged that his eight-month-old son died of doctor’s alleged negligence at DHQ Hospital Timergara.

Giving details, he said that the doctor was busy talking on his cell phone for long and did not attend the patient immediately. Later, the councillor and PPP local leader reached on the spot and started protest while blocking Dir Timergara Highway.

However, Medical Superintendent (MS) DHQ Timergara Dr Anwar Zada rejected the allegations and clarified that the baby was provided within time treatment but despite stiff endeavours by doctors he could not survive due to the precarious condition of his disease.
