GUJRAT-The University of Gujrat (UoG) is set to launch five-year degree programme Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) and BS Mechanical Engineering under the faculty of Engineering and Technology.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ziaul Qayyum gave the go ahead for "immediate implementation" of the projects at the 10th academic council meeting held here at Hafiz Hayat Campus the other day. Dr Zia, flanked by Registrar Dr Tahir Aqil, presided over the meeting.

The Pharm-D programme, which had been proposed by Dean Faculty of Science Dr Muhammad Faheem Malik at the previous meeting of the council, is welcomed by all public quarters as an attempt to cope with the health care problems in the country.

After the endorsement, committees were formed for compilation of reports on technical and other requirements for accreditation of the programme by Pharmacy Council of Pakistan.

The council discussed and approved a number of other proposals on various academic courses and programmes. It also approved Nawaz Sharif Medical College (NSMC) academic calendar and University of Health Sciences rules and policies with regard to MBBS and BDS admission.

Earlier, Dr Zia congratulated the six newly-elected faculty members for participating in the meeting as council members.

The meeting was attended by UoG faculty deans Prof. Dr Faheem Malik, Dr Fareeshullah Yousufzai, Dr Muhammad Suleman Tahir, Dr Fauzia Maqsood, Dr Abdur Rehman; Controller Examinations Dr Muhammad Danish, various HoDs, directors, chairpersons, directors from UoG sub-campuses and affiliated colleges, Principal Nawaz Sharif Medical College, Chief Librarian Syed Kazim Ali and External member Syed Khizar Mahdi.
