KAMALIA-Kite-flying is completely banned in Punjab province and police would deal violators of the ban with sternly.

This was stated by Kamalia DSP Atif Meraaj during an awareness walk organized to highlight dangers of flying kites here the other day.

DSP Atif Meraaj led the walk, which was attended by Kamalia Trade Union President Umar Farooq Ludhianvi, General Secretary Hafiz Alamgeer, members of civil society and media. The walk started from Kalma Chowk. The participants after passing through Iqbal Bazaar and Saddr Bazaar reached Dr Nazar Chowk where the walk ended. During the walk, pamphlets describing cons of kite flying and safety measures were distributed to people and schoolchildren.

Later, DSP Atif Meraaj told the media in a meeting that the people had fully supported the campaign against kite flying. He added that the campaign had received positive results. "However, further public support is still needed," he noted and added that the situation in Kamalia regarding kite flying is under control. He urged people to inform the police in case of any law violation, adding that their identity would be kept secret.

In the meanwhile, police arrested a kite flyer, Qaisar Ehsan, from Mohallah Islam Nagar during a crackdown. The police recovered kites and string rolls from his possession. A case had been registered against him at Kamalia City police station.



Kamalia Assistant Commissioner Hafiz Najeeb ordered the officials concerned during a meeting to spare no effort to make the ongoing anti-polio campaign a success.

The AC ordered to achieve all the set targets concerning successful completion of the campaign within stipulated time period. He also advised the anti-polio teams to perform duty with honesty, adding that no child under the age of five should have been left unvaccinated. He appealed the public to cooperate with anti-polio teams for the eradication of polio. He also appealed to the parents to get their children administered anti-polio vaccine so that they could have a healthy life.


Saddr police arrested a drug-peddler, Mulazim Hussain, from a place near Chak 739 G/B and recovered 120g of hashish from his possession. The police registered a case against him.
