139th birth anniversary of Maulana Zafar Ali Khan today

LAHORE – The 139th birth anniversary of great leader of Pakistan Movement, father of Urdu journalism Maulana Zafar Ali Khan is being celebrated under the aegis of Maulana Zafar Ali Khan Trust today (Wednesday).
Different ceremonies will be held to pay homage to Maulana. Punjab University’s Institute of Communication Studies will organise the central programme in this regard.
Maulana Zafar Ali Khan was the first politician of Punjab who raised voice against the British rule in the Subcontinent. Through his writings Maulana wanted to free the nation from the yoke of slavery. “Zamindar”, a popular newspaper, published under Maulana’s editorship, played a leading role in Pakistan Movement. Maulana had the honour to translate a resolution presented in English language to Urdu on the historic occasion.
Maulana fought for his nation’s rights through out his life. Maulana’s books Baharistan, Chamanistan, Nigaristan are an asset of our literature.
Recognising Maulana’s contributions, the Punjab government established Maulana Zafar Ali Khan Trust that initiated Zafar Ali Khan Award. Outstanding journalists received this award every year.
