SIALKOT - The consumers are suffering great ordeal in getting flour due to artificial shortage of flour in the district.

The stockists and hoarders created an artificial shortage of flour (atta) in the district by illegally hoarding flour bags allegedly with connivance of the flour mills’ owners.

Reportedly, people in all the four tehsils Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur of the district are facing flour shortage and are being forced to buy the commodity on inflated price.

The shopkeepers have been selling 20-kg flour bag against Rs 790 to 810 wherever the daily use commodity is available, violating price of Rs 640 per 20-kg bag fixed by the Punjab government.

According to sources, some shopkeepers have stocked huge quantity of flour bags in their godowns to earn more and more profit. On the other hand, the administration has become a silent spectator.

The consumers said that the profiteers were sucking the blood of poor while the authorities concerned were not taking action against them. They demand the government to intervene to end the artificial crisis.
