First round of PYF concluded with prize distribution

ISLAMABAD - Punjab Youth Sports Festival 2014 first round competitions concluded throughout the province after the announcement of winners while Inter-UC contests in the next phase will start today (Saturday). A prize distribution ceremony was held in Rawalpindi on Friday in which Parliamentary Secretary Punjab for Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs Chaudhry Sarfraz Afzal was the chief guest. Addressing the ceremony he said that it was the vision of Chief Minister Punjab M Shahbaz Sharif, which ensured the name of Pakistan included in Guinness Book of World Records and youngsters of Punjab are showing distinctions in various disciplines.
He said due to effective strategy and efforts of Punjab government, young generation was involved in positive games and activities; he appreciated the spirit of performance of young players in different sporting activities and congratulated them on their outstanding performances.
While speaking at the occasion, Assistant Commissioner (City) Quratul Ain Malik said that sports events inculcated sportsman spirit among the players and local administration was fully involved in organising these events in a disciplined manner.
District Sports Officer, Rawalpindi Babar Waheed informed that according to the vision of Chief Minister Punjab special opportunities of different events were given to youngsters who had enthusiastically participated in sports competitions held at Block and Union Council level in the first phase of Punjab Youth Sports Festival while the next round starts today, he said that adequate arrangements had been made to organise these events.
Chaudhry Sarfraz Afzal awarded cash prizes and track suits to the winners of wards and Union Council level competitions, Tehsil Municipal Officer Zahid Sohail, Administrator Union Councils Muhammad Ali Malik, Secretaries and Sports officials were also present on the occasion.
