PESHAWAR - Senior journalist Mohammad Naeem and Vice President Khyber Union of Journalists were seriously injured due to police torture and highhandedness inside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly building here on Thursday.

The incident occurred when a policeman exchanged harsh words with Muhammad Naeem over car parking inside the assembly jurisdiction. The policeman hit the journalist with his gun when he asked him to remove barber wire from the parking area, which has been reserved for journalists. The policeman not only broken one of his arm but also severely injured his head, nose and mouth. The policeman was also ready to open firing on him, however another journalist took weapon from him. The news of journalists’ torture was echoed inside assembly hall where large number of journalists boycotted the house proceeding.

The Office-bearers of Khyber Union of Journalists, Peshawar Press club President Nasair Hussain and other strongly condemned the incident and convened the general body meeting of Peshawar Press club and Khyber Union of Journalist today at 2:00 Pm.  The journalist leaders announced that complete boycott of police coverage, including IG and other government high-ups will be made. They demanded Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Parvez Khattak, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Engineer Shaukatullah to terminate the concerned police official.

They said that in general body meeting, journalists community will make decision to boycott function of the government office-bearers.  It is pertinent to mention here that earlier to this personnel of Special branch kidnapped Mohammad Zahid and severely tortured him when he came out from his house for attending his duty.


Dozens of tribesmen hailing from North Waziristan Agency Friday staged a protest demonstration and set up a protest camp against the killing of innocent tribal family allegedly by security forces in Mirali area.  

The protesting tribesmen led by a tribal elder Malik Riaz and scores of relatives of the deceased gathered here outside press club to record their protest against the brutal killing. The affected tribal family, who lost several family members in the recent military operation in Mirali area of North Waziristan Agency, set up a protest camp here outside press club.

The protesting tribesmen demanded an impartial probe into the killing of innocent tribal family members allegedly at the hands of security forces and asked for stopping military action.

In the protest camp, the protesters presented pictures of destruction and human losses in military operation. They also strongly condemned the killing of innocent civilians in military operations and unabated US drone attacks in FATA.

“Why tribal people are being killed on behest of others,” said Tariq Dawar, who was holding picture of their love ones. He said the massacres of innocent tribesmen must be stopped. We will not tolerate killing and destruction in North Waziristan and rest of Fata, he warned. 

“We want peace and development in Fata and not killing of innocent civilians there,” said Malik Riaz. He said the tribesmen had rendered numerous sacrifices for the motherland and patriotic citizen of the country

Pir Aqil Jan, a tribal leader of Jamiate Ulema Islam-Fazl said the tribal people have been badly affected in the ongoing war against terrorism, which were deliberately kept backwards in kind of field. “Tribesmen are being mentally and physically disturbed due to prolonged military operations and US drone attacks in Federally Administered Tribal Areas, he added.  What we done sin, and why we are not giving due rights, he questioned.

“We will not bother further military assaults on direction of any foreign mentor, he warned. 

Commenting on recent security forces operation in Mirali area of NWA, he said that massive destruction took place in the tribal agency and innocent people, including children, women and aged had been killed there.

About the killing of foreign militants in security forces operation, he clarified that only innocent local tribal people were killed in the military action. He criticised the incumbent federal government and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for taking dollars on head of innocent tribesmen. He demanded the government to immediate withdraw troops from Fata.
