LAHORE - Experts have forecast good rains with snowfall over the hills for parts of the country during the coming week, from Tuesday to Friday. Under the influence of westerly wave, good rains with snowfall over the hills are expected in upper, central Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from Wednesday to Thursday. Scattered rains are expected in Balochistan, Sauth Punjab and upper Sindh from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Countrywide rains and snowfall over the hills are likely to increase intensity of cold wave during the coming week. The rains are likely to decrease the intensity of fog in plains of the country including Lahore.  On Saturday, Skardu remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 10 degree Celsius below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Parachinar and Astore was recorded -08 C, Gupis -07 C, Hunza and Malamjabba -06 C, Dir and Gilgit -05 C, Kalam, Quetta -04 C, Drosh and Rawalakot -03 C, Chitral -02 C, Murree -01 C.

Maximum and minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded 22 C and 07 C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 44 per cent.

According to the experts, continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. A fresh westerly wave is expected to approach Southwest Balochistan on Monday.

This westerly wave is likely to persist over upper parts till coming Friday.

Local meteorological department has forecast cold and dry weather for most parts of the country including Lahore during the next couple of days.

Foggy conditions will prevail over plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during night and morning hours. Foggy conditions are likely to affect flight operation at Lahore, Sialkot, Multan, Faisalabad airports and flow of traffic on Motorway M2 (Lahore to Pindi Bhattian sector) and M1 (Peshawar to Burhan sector) during night and morning hours.
