Hundreds of activists of religious and political parties, lawyers and members of civil society joined hands on Saturday to express resentment on condemnable offense committed by French magazine as they brought out a big rally here on Saturday.
The march began from Hussain Agahi and concluded at Chowk Ghanta Ghar. The participants of the rally carried out full-throated sloganeering against the publishers of sacrilegious caricatures. They also deplored the hypocrisy exhibited by the West on the issue and chanted slogans against French government for backing French weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo.
More than 150 lawyers led by District Bar Association President Khalid Ashraf Khan and General Secretary Khalid Ghani took out a rally from District courts and joined the major rally of civil society which was led by MNA Malik Aamer Dogar, Khawaja Suleman Siddiqui a Central leader of traders, Saifur Rehman Qureshi of Jamaatud Dawah, Asif Mehmood Ikhwani (Jamaat-e-Islami) Allama Khalid Mehmood Nadeem, Mufti Hidayatullah Pasroori, Allama Mujahid Abbas Gardezi, Ayub Mughal, Tariq Naeemullah Khan, Abdul Haq Mujahid, Ijaz Janjua, Tariq Naeemullah Khan. Participants were shouting slogans,” we are not Charlie we are Mustafai “They demand,” UNO should take notice of insult to Islam in the guise of freedom of expression. Lawyers of Multan are protesting against blasphemous cartoons published by French weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo. Lawyers have boycotted courts on the call of Punjab Bar Council to show displeasure over the sketches. In Multan, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah and Sahiwal lawyers did not appear in session court, district court. Reportedly, five thousand cases have been postponed due to the strike. During an emergency meeting in Multan, lawyers passed a resolution condemning the provocative material.
