Islamabad-Speakers at a seminar held at Allama Iqbal Open University underscored importance of research journals for promotion of languages and literature.

The seminar was presided over by renowned scholar Prof Fateha Muhammad Malik. Other speakers including eminent writers Iftikhar Arif and Khurshid Nadeem also addressed the seminar.

Two accredited academic journals on Pakistani Languages and creative writing in Urdu language were also launched on the occasion that aimed at promoting intellectual and scholarly work in particular areas, relating to society’s overall socio-economic development.

With these journals, total number of journals published in a short span of time of about three years reached to 17. The Journal on Pakistani languages was published by the AIOU department of Pakistani Languages, while the journal on Urdu was issued by the Department of Urdu.

The extensive research work was aimed at developing research culture in the country, relevant to the society. It was part of the initiatives taken for upgrading academic ranking of university.

While launching the journal, Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that the AIOU fulfilled its main responsibility of constructing knowledge and disseminating the same among the end-users through the conferences and the research journals. In recent years, 28 national and international conferences were arranged to achieve the desired goal, he said. Dr Shahid Siddiqui asserted that the society should be benefited from research findings being carried out in the educational institutions, adding that it was his dream to develop the university as a hub of research-based activities.
