PESHAWAR -  Army won the 6th National Archery Championship after shocking Wapda by securing 152 points as against Wapda’s 100 points while Punjab finished third here at Qayyum Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) president Lt Gen (r) Arif Hassan was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony whiel former sports minister Syed Aqil Shah, FATA Olympic Association president Shahid Khan Shinwari, PSB Director Sports Coaching Center Mumtaz Ahmad Nadeem, Pakistan Archery Federation secretary Wisal Khan, officials, players and a large number of spectators were also present there.

In team event, Army team comprising Nadeem Junior, Nadeem Ahmad and Tayyub scored 76 points, 46 points and 30 points respectively while Wapda earned runners-up trophy with Hafiz Abdul Rehman (30 points), Nouman (60-point) and (10 points) playing well while Punjab bagged third position with 24 points.

In the men’s individual, Nadeem Junior created a new national record by scoring 588 points by hitting 11 times 10 pointers, 13 times 9 pointers, 7 times 8 pointers.

In the individual women category, Wapda’s Nighat Khan led the way by recording 519 points. Sumbal Zubair of Army was second with 500 points while Umma Zahra of Army was third with 497 points. Aqsa of Army (428) was the most emerging player. Saira Dilshad of Punjab, Kanwal of Customs, Remshah of Punjab, Ishrat of Punjab recorded 300, 280, 248 and 242 points respectively.

In the mixed, Nadeem Junior and Sumbal of Army got first position, followed by Nighat and Nouman of Wapda and Saira and Arsalan of Punjab got third. In women team event, Wapda won gold, Army silver and Punjab bronze. In the end, the chief guest gave away trophies, certificates and medals to the position holders.
