LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that he has given enough time to sugar mill owners and they will not be given more time now.
“I will go to any extent to protect interests of farmers,” he said while presiding over a meeting through video link here on Wednesday.
The chief minister expressed his strong indignation over complaints of deduction in weight and procurement of sugarcane from farmers at low rates and issued final warning of 48 hours to sugar mill owners to mend their ways. He said that owners of sugar mills buying sugarcane at low rates will be arrested. He made it clear that if any of his blood relatives was ever found involved in this practice, he will not be let off. He said that general managers of the mills found purchasing sugarcane at low rates will also be arrested and no leniency will be shown in this regard. He said that any violation of the decided formula with regard to deduction in weight will not be tolerated and implementation of this formula will be ensured in letter and spirit. He said that concerned commissioners, deputy commissioners, regional police officers and district police officers will have to play their effective role to protect the rights of the sugarcane farmers. He made it clear that strict action will be taken against the concerned commissioner, deputy commissioner, regional police officer and district police officer if any complaint is lodged.
STUDENT’S FAMILY ASSURED OF JUSTICE
Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of death of a class 12th student, Dilawar Abbas, during a fight amid a football match in Liaqatabad area. He has extended sympathies to the bereaved family and sought a report from the deputy inspector general of police (operations). He said that responsible persons should be arrested at the earliest. The chief minister assured the bereaved family of justice.
