Saad Hamid to represent Pakistan at World Economic Forum annual meeting

ISLAMABAD (PR): It is a proud moment for Islamabad and Pakistan as Saad Hamid from the Global Shapers Islamabad Hub will be joining the Pakistani delegation, led by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, to attend the World Economic Forum annual meeting 2018 in Davos, Switzerland.

Saad is part of the Davos50, a group of remarkable individuals selected by the World Economic Forum from across 150 countries based on their achievements and contributions to share their voice and ideas with the world at WEF. Along with other Shapers, Saad will be meeting Bill Gates and Jack Ma as part of “Meet The Leader” sessions along with other world leaders.

Saad will also be speaking at the World Economic Forum 2018 in a private session, “Finding meaning in the 4th industrial revolution”, where he will share his thoughts and ideas on how we need to learn digital skills to prepare our youth for the upcoming digital revolution.

Saad takes pride in being raised and brought up in Islamabad and has dedicated his life to helping the young people find better employment and create opportunities through digital skills and platforms. Saad has been affiliated as a Shaper with the Islamabad Hub for over 5 years now and has previously served as a curator. Islamabad Hub is involved in various projects related to community building and improving the state of people in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s delegation to Davos will also include representatives from the government such as Khawaja Muhammad Asif (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Marriyum Aurangzeb (Minister of State for Information Broadcasting), Anusha Rahman Khan (Minister of State for IT) as well national leaders like Bilawal Bhutto Zardari of PPP, Ali Raza Siddiqui of JS Bank and Hussain Dawood of Engro Corp.

Haier again declared #1 brand in major categories of home appliances

LAHORE (PR): Haier has set a blistering pace in the world market, becoming the first brand to outsell all other brands of home appliances for a record 9th consecutive year. Data released by EUROMONITOR, the world’s most authoritative market research institution, puts Haier at the very top, with a 10.5% share of the global home appliance market, a massive 4.5% lead over the second best global brand in terms of volume sales.

It is significant that the Haier brand has led the world as the top selling global brand since 2009, outpacing all other home appliance manufacturers across the globe. Euromonitor data for 2017, recently released, shows that Haier leads the world in major home appliance categories.

In refrigerators, Haier leads with a 17.3% share of world sales, 14.6% in washing machines, 13.5% in electric coolers, and a whopping 20.6% share in freezers. Overall, the brand leads the world with a 10.5% share of the home appliance market. Haier’s global leadership is also reflected here in Pakistan, where the brand leads in most major categories.

Karandaaz to double SMEs share in private lending

ISLAMABAD (PR): Karandaaz Pakistan, a not-for-profit financial institution, is working to promote financial access to underserved segments in Pakistan by leveraging digital technology. Karandaaz Pakistan, backed by Department for Financial Development (DFID), UK and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, strives to increase the share of small and medium enterprise (SME) sector’s financing in the total private lending by 2020.

Chief Executive Officer Karandaaz Pakistan, Ali Sarfraz Hussain, while briefing the media at Karandaaz headquarters, here in Islamabad said, “Karandaaz Pakistan is implementing national financial inclusion program with financial support from DFID and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation under which the credit to SMEs would be doubled from 7 percent to 15 percent by 2020.”

He said that DFID has committed 187 million pounds up to 2024 out of which they have provided 40 million pounds so far. Karandaaz has invested Rs5.1 billion till June 2017 to promote financial inclusion and to support over 300 SMEs. Pakistanranks one of the lowest in terms of financial inclusion, where only 23 percent adults have access to financial services whereas 83percentadults in Sri Lanka and 53 percent in India have formal bank accounts.

CEO Karandaaz informed media that his company launched digital and financial inclusion program for 500,000 small famers possessing landholdings of up to 12 acres. They receive interest free loans from the government of Punjab while Karandaaz Pakistan provides them technical assistance. The joint venture has benefitted over 93 thousand farmers so far and is witnessing steady progress. The loans are issued by banks while the government of Punjab bears the interest cost.
