ISLAMABAD The Council of Common Interest (CCI) will give formal approval to the construction of Diamer Bhasha Dam and security of loan for the project in a meeting here on Sunday (today). Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani will chair the meeting. The sources informed that the fate of the dam had been in doldrums since the refusal of World Bank to finance the project and now Government of Pakistan had approached the Asian Development Bank to fund the project which had placed the condition that the Government of Pakistan should first secure formal approval from the Parliament in this regard. Later it was decided during a high-level meeting held in the Federal Capital in the chair of Prime Minister Gilani that instead of taking the matter to the Parliament, it should be placed before the Council of Common Interest to secure permission for the construction of the dam from the CCI, which has representation of all the four provinces. In Sunday meeting, besides all the four Chief Ministers, Syed Naveed Qamar, Humayun Aziz Kurd and Arbab Alamgir would represent Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa respectively, while Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would himself represent Punjab and would also head the CCI. The sources informed that besides getting go-ahead approval of the project from CCI, the matter pertaining to its royalty and other associated problems would also be discussed in the meeting.
