LAHORE - A police constable allegedly killed his spouse for giving birth to a daughter in Raiwind police area on Saturday, police sources said. The deceased Shamshad Akhtar, 25, married her cousin Irfan Ahmed, a resident of Railway Colony Rai-wind, couple of years back. Police investigators said Muhammad Hashim, brother of the deceased, in his statement to the police said that after the birth of daughter in 2009, Irfan developed clashes with her spouse, Shamshad, and started quarrelling with her on one pretext or the other. Shamshad gave birth to another daughter a few days back which made Irfan infuriated at my sister, he added. He alleged the accused was also asking his sister to ask her father to transfer two of his shops into his ownership. On her refusal, the accused used to beat and torture her off and on, he added. An on duty officer said according to the FIR lodged against the accused constable, Hashim received call from Shamshads neighbours about her death. Police investigators said the body was lying in a room and her face had turned blue. Police sources, however, said it seemed the accused Irfan had electrocuted his spouse, as there were burn injuries on her hands. Later, the body was handed over to her family after medico-legal formalities with no arrest till filing of this report. Police concerned claimed that they were raiding his house.
