There is no doubt that unemployment is one of the biggest problems faced by our countrys youth. Since already there are a host of other problems like poverty, illiteracy, poor health services, terrorism, violence, unemployment simply adds fuel to the fire and indeed as in tribal areas it provides a recruiting windfall to the militants. In urban areas, the menace simply leads to an increase in the crime rate. Pakistan has suffered from decades of internal political disputes as well as low levels of foreign investment. Inflations has been on the rampage. It is high time the government chalked out an effective strategy aimed at addressing the problem of unemployment. It must at the same time tackle the energy crisis and set up an Islamic economic system. Leaving the youth to fend for themselves would only have a disastrous impact on the country in the days to come. SABEEN ZAHRA, Lahore, July 15.
