ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has directed Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan to resume his duty and condoned his three and half months resignation period as extra ordinary leave (EOL).
“ Mr Khan who tendered his resignation on March 1 resumed his duty on Monday,” sources in the ECP told TheNation on Tuesday, adding he was on two-year contract that expires in September 2013.
Ishtiaq Khan, a former DMG Officer, who served as additional secretary in the National Assembly prior to his deputation in the ECP in September 2009 had introduced large-scale electoral reforms as ECP secretary to make the next general elections transparent and error free.
Khan is politically well-connected. He had signed landmark agreement with NADRA to make error free electoral rolls in addition to measures such as use of machines in the election to stop use of bogus votes.
