ISLAMABAD - President Mamnoon Hussain Thursday reaffirmed the government's commitment to the promotion of higher education in all disciplines including medical sciences and called upon the university of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University Islamabad to focus on quality research in order to coping with ever-growing challenges in medical and health sciences

The President, who is also a Chancellor of SZABMU, said this while chairing the 1st meeting of the Senate of the SZABMU at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Thursday.

Underscoring the key role of the universities, the President urged the university's management to particularly focus on the evaluation of the performance of various departments of the University as per international standards which he said would help the medical professionals and students to compete at the global level in the field of medical and allied health sciences.

He also emphasized the need for developing and strengthening linkages of the SZABMU with the reputed international universities and health institutes which, the President said, would help the university benefit from the global experiences and expertise in medical sciences.

The meeting was also apprised about the visit of the medical team of SZABMU, PIMS and polyclinic to the IDPs camps in Bannu and the various health services and medical facilities and reliefs being provided to the IDPs at the camps, district headquarter hospital and the various basic health units.

On the occasion, Prof. Javed Akram gave an overview of the academic activities, research development and other achievements, ongoing and future projects and plans of the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Islamabad.

The meeting also appointed with consensus Prof. M. Iqbal Memon, Chairman Department of Anesthesia and member of senate as member for Finance and Planning Committee of the University. Under sub- section (C) of section 22 of the university act, the Senate of the university is authorized to appoint or nominate members to the syndicate and other authorities of the University.

The senate members of the University appreciated the President for chairing the1st senate meeting of the SZABMU and assured that the University will continue to work for promoting quality research and achieving excellence in the field of medical and allied health sciences.

The President assured allout support and patronage to the SZABMU in its educational pursuits and plans and the promotion of health education in the country.
