Against prolonged disconnection of power supply due to out of order transformer of Saddr Pulli area, hundreds of people held a protest demonstration here on Thursday.

The protesters said that the transformer became out of order due to short-circuit. Allah Rakha, a resident, said that the residents were facing shortage of water amidst hot weather during Ramazan as the Mepco staff has failed to replace the transformer with the new one. Thus, during prayers in the mosques, the Muslims face difficulties.

Nadeem, another citizen, said that some senior persons of the area met with Mepco officials in this regard but nobody reached the spot to change the transformer. The other protester said that the Mepco employees reached the spot and took the transformer with them and told the people that they would come again with the new transformer but after several hours, they did not return. When tried, the Mepco SDO did not receive the call made by this scribe.

MEETING ON RAMAZAN BAZAAR: Bahawalpur Division Commissioner Captain (r) Javed Akbar said that to ensure the continuous provision of sugar to the customers in Ramazan bazaar, quota of sugar has been increased significantly and there would be no shortage.

He was addressing a meeting held regarding the Ramazan bazaar. He directed to make the process of auction in fruit and vegetables markets effective and in this matter, the Market Committee should play its role.

He said that in Ramazan bazaar, stock of products should be stored in such a way that it is visible to the customers. He noted that stalls of fruit and vegetables should be established separately to facilitate the consumers.

He said that on the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the people were being provided with quality goods at cheaper prices. He directed the officials to stop profiteering and hording of goods. The meeting also reviewed the issues of fair price shops and subsidisy. It decided to give more relief to the people to improve the credibility of the government. He also gave permission to appoint more staff in market committee.
