RAWALPINDI - Police thwarted a criminal attempt of supplying dead animal’s meat to butchers on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr by nabbing an accused from Harley Street, sources informed The Nation on Friday.

A case was registered against the accused identified as Muhammad Nawaz son of Makhan Khan, a resident of Girja village, and a court of law sent him to Adiala Jail, sources added. According to details, a police mobile team was on routine patrolling when it spotted a suspicious vehicle and stopped it for checking.

During course of search, police found a dead slaughtered cow. Police arrested the accused and shifted him to Police Station (PS) RA Bazaar where Station House Officer (SHO) Jahangir Bhatti called veterinary doctor for examining the cow, sources said, adding that the doctor declared that the cow was slaughtered after she died owing to some disease.

Taking action, police lodged a case against the accused and produced him before a court of law. The court sent the accused to Adiala Jail on judicial remand, sources said. The dead animal was discarded by police and officials of Sihala Slaughter House.
