Imran delays appearance before NAB

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan did not appear before the National Accountability Court (NAB) Peshawar despite being summoned today.

Imran Khan through his lawyers, has requested the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to give him [Imran Khan] time to appear in an ongoing inquiry against his alleged misuse of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government's helicopters.

NAB officials said today that Imran's lawyers have submitted an application requesting that the party Chairman is busy in the election campaign and thus cannot appear for questioning.

Earlier, today, National Accountability Court (NAB) Peshawar summoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan regarding an ongoing inquiry against alleged misuse of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government's helicopters.

In last week, NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) issued a notice to PTI Chairman to appear before the NAB officials. Imran Khan will be questioned about allegedly using the provincial [KP] government’s helicopters for private visits.

PTI Chairman is accused of illegally using an Mi-17 and an Ecureuil helicopter belonging to the KP government for a total of 74 hours, causing a loss of Rs 2.1 million to the national treasure.

Prior to this, on January 29, media reported that the former KP government spent millions of rupees on Imran's use of the provincial government's helicopters.

NAB chairman Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal in February directed the bureau to launch an investigation against Imran Khan and then-KP chief minister Pervez Khattak over unofficial use of two government helicopters by misusing authority.

Khattak has already appeared before NAB in the past regarding the case.
