On the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s birth, on Wednesday, the United Nations Information Centre in partnership with the Pakistan Sweet Home (PSH) paid tribute to the values and dedication to Nelson Mandela’s legacy and his services to humanity.

“We organized several learning and recreational activities for the underprivileged children of the PSH; including cultural performance, screening the documentary, a quiz competition and touring an exhibition on the life and messages of the Nelson Mandela.”

PSH Patron in Chief Zammurud Khan welcomed the guests and acknowledged that, through the commemoration of the Nelson Mandela Day, the children of PSH have got unique opportunity to learn about the life story and inspiring messages of the great personality.

In his remarks, Republic of South Africa High Commissioner Mpendulo Jele shared the reflections of the struggle and movements led by Nelson Mandela in the areas of human rights, reconciliation, gender equality, the rights of children and other vulnerable groups, as well as the fight against poverty and the promotion of social justice.

Nelson Mandela, whose successful struggle against South Africa's apartheid system of racial segregation and discrimination made him a global symbol for the cause of human rights and earned him the Nobel Peace Prize, would have turned 100 years old on 18 July 2018.

The United Nations paid special thanks to PSH for an opportunity to meet with the talented, inspiring and brilliant children.
