Nawaz’s arrest unjust: Shehbaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that there was no evidence in the investigation against his brother Nawaz Sharif.

While speaking at an election rally in Rajanpur, Shehbaz criticised the treatment of his brother. The PML-N president called the case against his brother ‘very weak.’

“Nawaz already knew he and his daughter would be arrested,” said Shehbaz, reiterating that there was no evidence of his involvement in corruption. He also said that Nawaz was forced to sleep on the floor in his first night at Adiala Jail. “This is the way they treat a three-time premier,” he lamented.

While criticising PTI Chief Imran Khan, Shehbaz said that the ‘favourites’ were given free rein in the country, while others were being suppressed. “Ilzaam (accusation) Khan wasn’t able to produce even a single megawatt of electricity,” he said. Like his mind, the seats at Imran’s rallies are empty, the PML-N president taunted.

Shehbaz Sharif said that Imran is unfit for premiership due to his impulsive nature. “God forbid, if he becomes prime minister and has to select an army chief, he may announce one name today and then take it back tomorrow,” Shehbaz said.

He added that a person who cannot stand by his own decision doesn’t deserve to run our country. The former Punjab CM was of the view that when he goes to Peshawar, where PTI ruled for five years, he would develop Peshawar like Lahore. “Can Imran Khan come to Lahore and say he will turn Lahore into Peshawar?,” Shehbaz asked the crowd.

When dengue cases were reported in Peshawar, Imran was up in the mountains but when dengue cases were reported in Lahore he called us the dengue brothers, criticised Shehbaz. “We have to defeat the bat, arrow and jeep logos,” he urged. He also spoke about his government’s achievements during its last tenure.

“If God puts me in office again, I will come to the aid of the people,” he told participants of the event. “We have worked for the development and prosperity of South Punjab; even during the floods I was there with the people of Rajanpur,” he added.

“There is no doubt that South Punjab belongs to the PML-N,” he said.
