Information minister says govt has cut tax rate on petroleum to reduce consumers burden

ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Hussain Chaudhry said that Prime Minister Imran Khan's Uzbekistan visit has laid a strong foundation for economic and strategic ties with Central Asia.

In a tweet, the minister said that Pakistan is grateful to the government and people of Uzbekistan for the love and respect shown to Prime Minister Imran Khan. He said the Peshawar-Tashkent train and road network will link two great projects CPEC and the EU. In another tweet, the minister showcased graphic chart depicting the government providing relief to public on petroleum prices. He pointed out that the government by keeping the prices of petroleum products at lowest possible level in July 2021 gave up on Rs.27 billion in tax collections.

Showing the chart of petroleum prices in international market, and petroleum prices in Pakistan, Fawad said that from January 2021 to July 2021, the increase in International Brent Crude Price was 47 percent, while increase in petrol prices in Pakistan was 11.3 percent.

The minister in the graphic chart also pointed out that average tax on per litre in the last six months of PML-N government was 22.5 percent, while the ratio of current tax in the PTI government is almost half (11.5 percent).
