Degree record sought in Ghurki's case

LAHORE - An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Thursday sought record from controller examinations of Punjab University and BISE Lahore of degrees of PPPs MPA Yousaf Farooq Ghurki from PP-159, Lahore. The petition was filed by a voter of the constituency Iftikhar Ahmad contending Ghurkis academic degrees which were submitted to the election commission showed he had done his matriculation in year 1990, whereas, he passed his BA examination in 1992, only two years after the matriculation. The petitioner said the years of passing examination mentioned on the degrees of the respondents established he obtained fake degrees to contest the election. Therefore, the petitioner prayed to the court to declare the respondent MPA disqualified under article 62 and 63 of the constitution. The LHC tribunal will resume hearing on the matter on June 21.
