ISLAMABAD The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) held the first Anti-Doping National Seminar here at a local hotel to spread awareness about doping in the national federations. Director Medical Wing PSB, Dr. Waqar Ahmed hosted the seminar and experts from all over the country took part in the seminar and delivered important information. Dr. Meesaq Rizvi from Lahore and Dr. Pervaiz Rizvi from Karachi delivered fruitful lectures. Dr Waqar Ahmed said on this occasion that 197 country were the members of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The WADA was established in 1999 and Pakistan became the member of this organisation at earliest stage when only 73 countries were the members of this prestigious international organisation, he added. He further said that a player was responsible for saving himself from banned substances. This is the need of hour to inform our players about doping. The WADA has released a list of doping drugs and they should be conscious about that and avoiding to use any medicine without consulting medical expert, he said. Doping test is a costly exercise but we have to meet the international requirements. The officials of the national sports federations should have knowledge about doping. We will hold such event in future to aware the people about the doping, he concluded. Chief guest, Federal Minister for Sports Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani distributed shields among the officials. Director General PSB Amir Hamza Gillani was also present on this occasion.
