LAHORE Despite the gruesome incidents of three brutal police tortures and a fake police encounter, which took place in Lower Mall, Green Town and Nishtar Colony police precincts and claimed three lives, Johar Town police on Friday subjected a senior cameraman of a private news channel to severe torture on recording a scene of police torture on a 12-year-old boy. The boy Awal Gull was picked up by the police on the charges of committing robbery. SHO Inspector Ehsan Elahi and policemen involved in the incident, however, have been suspended in order to sooth the anger of the annoyed media community. According to details, Johar Town police arrested a 12-year-old boy and dragged him to the police personnel carrier while beating him up. In the meantime, I reached the scene and asked the personnel as why they were dragging the boy, resultantly they not only mishandled but also dragged and put me into the police van, the cameraman Waheed Butt told the reporters. Earlier, the cameraman started capturing the scene at his mobile phone as a result of which the policemen snatched his cell phone and started beating him. The police detained the cameraman at the police station for some time. Meanwhile, PRO to CCPO Rai Hayat Nazar and PRO to DIG Operations Nayyab Haider forwarded mobile SMS to media personnel about a immediate press conference of 'performance of DIG Investigation Ali Amir Malik and SP Omer Virk scheduled to be addressed at about 3:00pm. The journalists, however, boycotted the press conference of Ali Amir Malik and demanded immediate action against the accused police officials. The DIG, however, turned down the demands of the journalists and tried his best to hush up the issue. Fruitfully, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and ordered to arrest the officials concerned on which CCPO Lahore Ahmad Raza Tahir had issued an order to suspend the policemen involved in this incident. On the other side, DSP Johar Town Circle Nasir Bajwa along with SHO Johar Town Ehsan Elahi, a fugitive officer who was posted from Nankana Saheb some two months back and was deputed for 45 days at Chung police station and from last five days he was transferred and posted in Johar Town, have approached SHO of Model Town Police Division with a request for patch up with the journalists. Reportedly, SHO of Model Town Division enjoys working relations with various mediamen. Meanwhile, several mediamen under the leadership of two senior journalists Ahmed Faraz and one Adnan assembled in an office where DSP Nasir Bajwa and Ehsan Elahi tried their best to satisfy the cameramen but to no avail. Insiders believed, Ahmed Faraz and Adnan played very positive role but Waheed Butt contacted PML-N spokesman Senator Pervaiz Rasheed and informed about his straightforward refusal about the patch up.
