CHINIOT - Though Chiniot was given the status of a district in 2009, no mega project has been begun so for. As for as the district complex is concerned, the land for it has not been finalised - Shamlat - but the authorities concerned are ignoring such land and are interested in the purchase of land. Shamlat at Jhumra Road is lying vacant but the authorities are ignoring this land, saying: It is not enough for the district complex. They argue that all the offices should be within one boundary. Their logic is not much convincing and the authorities are ignoring the free of cost land. They want to purchase the land costing Rs24 crore. This piece of land is lying very near the Shamlat, which is on the other side of the road. Besides this land at Jhumra Road, there are Shamlats at other roads also. The residents called upon the Chief Justice to take notice of this matter and save such a big amount of the nation. The Chiniot district needs higher allocation of funds for the fact that it is the last one district of the province and in this sense it is a new district. It needs many offices of various departments to be built but it is not worth emulation to say that the amount allocated for this district is meager than its requirements. The MPAs of this district have miserably failed to convince the CM that Chiniot district needs bigger funds than that allocated in the present budget. The amount allocated for district Chiniot is Rs163 crore for the year 2011-2012. It is very small amount keeping in view its requirements. The amount allocated for other districts are much bigger. The allocation for district Jhang is Rs406 crore in the present budget although that is an old district and does not need new buildings for offices. Besides this the allocation of funds for Nankana District is Rs. 267 crore, though it is a smaller district to Chiniot. The CM should consider the case and make good of it at the earliest. The present DCO of Chiniot Dr Irshad Ahmed is an honest officer but not active, say people. Prior to the appointment of Dr Irshad, Rana Tahir was the DCO of Chiniot. He was sent as project director and was very efficient. He was entrusted with the task of construction of district complex and other offices. He took keen interest in the development of Chiniot district but unluckily he indulged in destructive activities more than needed. Had he indulged in constructive activities, he would have proved very successful. People raised hue and cry against him due to his destructive activities. The present DCO of Chiniot is proceeding cautiously and wants to evade the fate of previous DCO. This fact has made him quite inactive. This situation is not worth emulation and people are demanding a CSP officer like Nasim Sadiq who should demand and arrange funds for the development of the district. Chiniot has been relegated much backward. At Jhang there are eight campuses of various universities but at Chiniot there is only one college for boys and even that has been nationalised. Chiniot is going to be neglected badly in all spheres of life. Even in Zakat and Baitulmal departments Chiniot is not given its due share. In the present meagre budget of Chiniot district what wonders can be done.
