KARACHI - Pakistan has put a lot of strenuous efforts for peace and stability in the region but there is a room to do more in this respect. These remarks were made by German Member of Parliament Rainer Arnold at a reception hosted in his honour by German Consul General Dr Christian Brecht at the chancery in Karachi last evening, says a press release. Arnold, leading a five-member delegation, said they were on a fact finding mission in Pakistan. The German parliamentarian said in his opinion Pakistan was an important country in the region with a lot of responsibility, as far as maintaining peace and stability in the region was concerned. He added that Germany was helping Pakistan in this respect and had helped train 330 army personnel in anti-terrorism warfare. Arnold also pointed out that for peace, Pakistan needed to establish better relations with India so that both countries could mutually benefit from each other. He added he was glad to learn that the majority of Pakistani people were politically very conscious and wanted peace and stability. Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuhro who was chief guest on the occasion said Germany and Pakistan could greatly benefit from each other and such visits helped both countries understand each others viewpoint. Consul General Dr Christian Brecht in his opening remarks welcomed the parliamentarians delegation.
