ISLAMABAD - After getting update on the law and order situation in Karachi, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani directed the Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to call the meeting of parliamentarians from port city to have their input on bringing improvement in the overall law and order situation with special reference to the recent spate of target killings. Earlier Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik gave him a detailed briefing to Prime Minister on the overall law and order situation in Karachi with specific reference to the recent target killings in the port city. Meanwhile talking to other parliamentarians who called on him on Friday, the Prime Minister said that the governments finance team had put together all their efforts in preparing a balanced and pro-people budget, which in the coming day would prove to be the basis of overall economic progress of the country. He mentioned that transfer of resources to the province would help in addressing the pressing problems of the people. Talking about the education and health sector development, he said that if taken together the Federal and Provincial Government would be spending 32 per cent additional resources in these sectors. The Prime Minister also directed the Interior Minister and the Chief Minister Sindh to hold meeting with all members of the Parliament belonging to Karachi to discuss law and order situation of the metropolitan. The Interior Minister updated the Prime Minister on the security situation of Karachi during the meeting. Regarding the debates and suggestions put forth by Parliamentarians on various budgetary proposals, the Prime Minister appreciated the efforts and seriousness of the public representatives. He added that the Upper House has also held a useful debate on the budget. The Prime Minister maintained that the wheat and sugarcane production in the country has shown remarkable increase as compared to year 2008-09 owing to the better pricing and supportive policies of the government. Commenting on the governments fiscal policies, the Prime Minister said that prudent expenditure management and better resource mobilization has been the hallmark during the year ending on June 2011, which would be continued to provide space for overall growth. The Parliamentarian informed the Prime Minister about various issues relating to their respective constituencies. They also briefed him about the status of development schemes in their areas. The Parliamentarians included Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Faisal Karim Kundi, Interior Minister Senator Rehman Malik and MNAs, Sardar Nabeel Gabool, Fiza Junejo and Khan Zada Khan.
