Rescue manages 1,511 fire emergencies

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHRORE - The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue1122) is investigating causes of fires to prevent growing fire incidents. Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer said that during a review meeting of fire incidents and fire investigation report of May 2011 here on Friday. The Rescue1122 managed 1511 fire emergencies during the month of May of which 35.87% was reported due to short circuiting. The second major reason behind most of fires was observed as the careless smoking. The other reasons of fires were noted as gas leakage, LPG cylinder blasts and careless use of candles, heaters and fireworks. It was further observed that most of fires are reported in industries, commercial areas and high rise buildings in big cities. The DG Rescue 1122 emphasised the importance of early fire detection and prevention and installation of fire hydrants in industrial units and commercial areas for effective firefighting. The Fire and Rescue Wing of the service briefed the DG that although during May loss worth of Rs 2404 million were saved due to timely response and modern professional firefighting. However fire incidents also cost losses of Rs 1805 million. It was noted these losses can be saved through active community participation in fire prevention. He urged the owners of industries to ensure fire safety measures to save their own business and take appropriate steps to install fire hydrants to help emergency service Rescue1122 save their property in case of fires.
