BAJAUR AGENCY At least 12 militants were killed and several others injured Friday during fresh encounters between the security forces and intruders from neighbouring Afghanistan here in different parts of the Bajaur Agency. Entering into its second day, the clashes between militants from Afghanistan, who intruded the previous day into Bajaur territory, and law enforcement agencies supported by volunteers of local peace Lashkar (militia) spread to border areas of Mamond tehsil including Manro Jangle, Sarkai and Makha. Sources informed TheNation that during the Friday encounters, 12 militants were killed in different areas of the Agency, while a Lashkar man sustained critical injuries during a fight. At least 21 militants have been killed by the security forces for the last two days. More than 300 militants from Afghanistan Thursday stormed Pakistan villages in Bajaur Agency and the clashes continued for the second day with use of heavy weapons. The security forces shelled suspected hideouts of militants in Mamond tehsil and the firing continued from about 9am till 2pm, wherein the law enforcement agencies claimed of destroying several dens of militants. Security forces also carried out search operations in various areas of the tehsil. Sources informed that due to the forceful retaliation on the part of security forces and the peace Lashkar, militants recoiled into Afghanistan territory. Security forces claimed 'cleansing the area of intruding militants while the forces and peace Lashkar started manning the region along with setting up new check posts in the border areas. Earlier this month, Pakistan conveyed strong concern to the Afghan ambassador to Islamabad, calling for stern action by Afghan and US-led Nato troops to crack down on militants in eastern Afghanistan. Meanwhile, four militants were killed and five others injured in fighter planes shelling on militants positions in Mohmand Agency on Friday. The jet fighter planes and gunships continued targeting militants positions on the second consecutive day at Mittai area of subdivision Baizai in Mohmand Agency. Resultantly, at least four militants were killed and five others injured in the shelling. The sources said that number of casualties may go up. Meanwhile, militants fired several martyr shells at government offices at Khuzai area of the agency. As a result, the forces retaliated and destroyed two militant hideouts. Likewise, almost 20 families have left their homes and got refuge at Naqai camp where a number of IDPs are living, who have also left their homes owing to the worst law and order situation and ongoing operation against militants in Mohmand Agency.
