OUR STAFF REPORTER PESHAWAR - In order to involve youth from Malakand Division in sports, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governments' sponsored Spirit of Swat Sports Festival will begin today (Saturday). The gala will be held amid tight security at Makkan Bagha, in which, seven different regions of the province will participate. A total of 12 teams each will compete in 15 disciplines and four female events. Male events comprise hockey, volleyball, football, basketball, cricket, badminton, bodybuilding, tug-of-war, kabaddi, cycling, boxing while female games include table tennis, volleyball, badminton and netball. The draws have already been opened. The hockey would start from June 18 while the last event of the female netball will be held on July 5, 2011, followed by other entertainment programme. In badminton, bodybuilding, tag-of-war and kabaddi only teams from Malakand Division would vie for the top honour while in all other games teams from seven regions - Kohat, Abbottabad, Dera Ismail Khan, Mardan, Bannu, Swat and Peshawar would take part only to show and highlight that the peace in Swat has been restored. Tariq Mehmood Director Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and coordinator of the Games, said that each game have 12 teams including seven regional and five District of the Malakand Division teams comprising Dir Upper, Shangla, Dir Lower, Buner and Malakand. Director General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Engineer Khanzeb Khan, and Project Manager of Provincial Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Settlement Authority (PaRRSA) Shakeel Iqbal, Hockey Olympian Rahim Khan were also present.
