Strong windstorm coupled with heavy rainfall here on Monday not only provided respite from the scorching heat but also brought miseries for the people of Mirpur division.
The entire Mirpur region experienced rainfall since Sunday night which brought pleasant change in the weather, reducing the temperature to greater extent. Like the previous day, sudden clouds again started hovering this evening and strong winds began to sweep the major parts of the region.
The strong winds, which resulted in suspending power supply to several parts of Mirpur division comprising Mirpur, Bhimbher and Kotli districts, were followed by rainfall thereby once again providing relief to people from sweltering heat besides causing great inconvenience.
According to the reports from different parts of the division, already hit by the unscheduled loadshedding of electricity, power supply got badly affected due to strong winds with poles of local supply lines getting uprooted mostly due to the falling of the trees and their branches. The power supply remained suspended for hours after the windstorm in various parts of Mirpur city and the district as well as in rest parts of the division.
Despite repeated attempts, no senior officer of the Electricity Department Mirpur was available for the comments while those in the powerhouses and receiving stations were unable to give any specific response about ending the exercise of unscheduled power outages besides the restoration of the power supply in various worst rain-hit areas.
