RAWALPINDI - Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that the government will bring the Pakistan Railway (PR) back on the track and a standard operating procedure (SOP) was being prepared for the revival of the entity.
He said entire Railways' land would be got back from the land mafia and zero tolerance policy would be adopted in this regard. However, there would be different policies for people living in Katchi Abadis on railway land and those who were using it for commercial purposes.
Saad expressed these views while talking to media men at Rawalpindi Railway Station on Monday. He said that all-out efforts would be made to bring an end to corruption and rid of the corrupt officers. He said that result-oriented mechanism would be prepared to end corruption in the department. The minister said special steps were under way to find out pilferages and for this purpose a vigilant cells would be established on provincial level to do away with it.
He said he would travel by train and would ask other parliamentarians to do so as to motivate the people and increase its revenue generation capacity. He said he was observing the situation whether to provide new locomotives or repair the existing ones to facilitate the passengers.
"I have talked to passengers and learnt about the difficulties they are facing and have travelled in almost every class. They also gave some tips which I will discuss with senior officers and engineers," he said. He said that he would hold meetings with all representatives of railway unions and learn about their demands.
"Their demands will be met if genuine," he said, adding that unions would be taken on board to revive the railway.
