Begum Kalsoom still in critical condition

LAHORE– The state of health of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz is still critical at Harley Street Clinic in London. According to media reports, the doctors have termed next 24 hours very crucial due to congealment of blood in lungs and the constant unconsciousness of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz.

Begum Kalsoom Nawaz has been on ventilator since Thursday evening when she collapsed due to cardiac arrest and went unconscious, say the reports received here. The doctors have yet not decided to take her off the life support machine due to her unstable condition.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz have reportedly extended their stay in London as doctors have advised them to spend maximum time with the patient.

They both have been called for appearance by the Accountability Court Islamabad, in the criminal references against them, on Tuesday. Earlier they were due to return home on Sunday night through a private airline, but the plan was cancelled due to deteriorating health condition of Begum Kalsoom. A fresh announcement about their comeback is likely to be made in due time. In case Nawaz Sharif and Maryam will not appear before the court today, a plea is likely to be made along with the documents, to the trial court for seeking their exemption from appearance.

Former Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shehbaz Sharif is also in London to see his brother’s wife Kalsoom Nawaz.

Begum Kasloom, 68, has been under treatment for her cancer disease in London since August last. During the course of treatment, she underwent three surgeries of different level and five chemotherapy treatment, the last one on June 8 as her health condition was reported, worsening since April.

While talking to media outside the clinic in London, Nawaz Sharif said Begum Kalsoom was on ventilator and unconscious. While asking for prayers for early recovery of Begum sahiba, he said, her condition was not stable since he came here (from Pakistan).

Maryam Nawaz Sharif in her media talk fell in tears while mentioning details of her visit to the ailing mother at the ICU of Harley Street Clinic. She said Abbu (Nawaz Sharif) and herself called the mother many times but she did not respond. “I avidly want to talk to my mother, but she is unconscious,” Maryam said and fell in tears asking for prayers for the recovery of her mother.

She is on ventilator and still not stable and as such no decision has been made by doctors as yet about removing life support machine from her, Maryam told the media about the condition of her mother.

Former Chief Minister Punjab and younger brother of Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, talking to media also asked for praying for Begum Kalsoom. He said doctors are closely monitoring health condition of his Bhabhi. He wanted Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz to stay in London.

Media reports from London say that a person impersonating himself as physician mysteriously tried to enter ICU section where Begum Kalsoom was under treatment. However the security persons deputed at the Clinic got hold of him and turned him out. According to details received here, one Dr Naveed showing his card to the security personnel entered the Clinic. However, he was intercepted by the guards and was not allowed to reach Begum Kalsoom. The guards took him out of the Clinic and let him go on a warning not to be seen around again, reports said quoting the local police sources. Video shoot at the Clinic were also found out from the cell phone of Dr Naveed, the report further said quoting the police sources.

Hussain Nawaz, elder son of Nawaz Sharif, confirming presence and expulsion of a suspected person, told media that such people are adding to their worries. Hussain did not identify who was that person while Maryam avoided saying anything about him.  

The leaders of political parties also continued to visit the Clinic to inquire about the Begum Kalsoom.
