ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi have quietly visited Awan-I-Sadr and held a detailed meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari on current political situation with special reference to the government formation in Punjab. Though Presidential Spokesman and Q-League leadership didn't confirm the meeting, the sources disclosed to TheNation that meeting was held and both sides discussed the future coalition between the two parties with special reference to their coalition government in Punjab. These sources further informed that as first step PML-Q could be made the part of the federal government and President Zardari had offered a couple of portfolios to Q-League in the federal cabinet, and in case the PML-Q agreed to it, these ministers would take oath in the upcoming federal cabinet expansion and re-allocation of portfolios in the next few days. The sources in the PPP disclosed that the party leadership didn't let the Q-League lean towards PML-N, as the reunification of the Muslim Leagues could completely oust them out of power in the Punjab and, at the same time, the reunion of two leagues could turn them into a formidable force in the Parliament that could pose a serious threat to the coalition government at Centre. The sources said that during the meeting Shujaat, once again, suggested that a national government could be formed in Punjab, as no party had clear-cut majority in the House and two parties have to get into alliance to form the government. On the other hand, PML-Q Punjab President Ch Pervaiz Elahi, who was labelled as some of the party leaders as main hurdle in the way of unification of PML-N and Q-League, was busy wooing back the forward blocs in the party and had meeting with the forward bloc in the party led by Najam Sayyal on Tuesday. The sources in the party said that in the next couple of days, he would attempt to have meeting with the forward bloc led by Mian Atta Manika to listen to his grievances and convince him to return back to the party so that Q league would become in a position to form coalition government with PPP. On the other hand, Premier Gilani was also busy mending fences with PML-N and in the next few days he was expected to visit Raiwind to have meeting with Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif. Premier Gilani in his telephonic conversation with Mian Nawaz Sharif agreed to bury the past bitterness and start with a new journey on the road leading to reconciliation in the light of Charter of Democracy (CoD) signed between Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shaheed Motharma Benazir Bhutto.
