LAHORE - The Punjab Assembly would resume its sitting on Wednesday (today) after break of 12 days. The last sitting of assembly's ongoing controversial session was held on March 6. Earlier, the assembly was scheduled to meet on March 11, but Speaker Rana M Iqbal addressed a news conference on the said day and fixed a new date for assembly meeting citing harassment of legislators ahead of the long march. As decided earlier by the Speaker, the PA will hold debate on law and order situation in Punjab, but in view of the latest development of restoration of deposed judges, the members are most likely to express their views on the historic success of the long march in today's sitting. It may be noted here that assembly's ongoing session was convened by Speaker Rana M Iqbal on requisition of assembly members, and only he could prorogue it on will as per the Constitution. Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, on the other hand, deems current assembly session as illegal, as according to him, assembly session cannot be convened during governor rule in the province.
